This case report relates to a 33-year-old gentleman referred to the Dublin Dental Hospital in July 2023 from his GDP regarding pain and swelling in the right mandible which had been present for one week.
Examination revealed a firm, extensive, exophytic, ulcerated growth in the lower right mandible extending from tooth 46 to 48, accompanied with intra-oral expansion. Radiographic examination revealed a multilocular radiolucency extending from tooth 46 to the angle of the mandible.

This case report will look to outline the patient presentation and initial examination, differential diagnosis, how a definitive diagnosis of central giant cell granuloma was made, as well as patient management and follow up.

The patient was initially treated in the Dublin Dental Hospital before being referred to St. James’ Hospital for further management.
