Salivary gland tumors (SGT) are rare neoplasms that account for 36% of all head and neck cancers.
Development of ipsilateral metachronous malignant SGT of two different histological types is an extremely rare event and there are only few reports in the literature describing this entity. We report a case of a 51 year old adult male who presented with a mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) in the left parotid metachronously followed by an ipsilateral polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) of the hard palate.
The patient underwent left superficial parotidectomy in June 2021 followed by a left maxillectomy with free fibula flap in December 2022. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a synchronous or metachronous occurrence of MEC of the parotid gland and PLGA of the hard palate.
